NexCore Group has completed a 32,000 square foot, hospital-affiliated Wellness Center in Knightdale, a fast-growing suburb of Raleigh. The outpatient facility is the first of three that NexCore will complete in 2012.
NexCore developed the Wellness Center in collaboration with Rex Healthcare, a private, not-for-profit system with a 433-bed acute care hospital located in Raleigh and multiple satellite outpatient campuses located throughout Wake County. Rex is a member of the prestigious UNC Health Care system and was named one of the Top 50 Hospitals in the U.S. by Becker’s Hospital Review in 2011.
With the completion of the new facility, Rex now has five comprehensive Wellness Centers placed in strategic locations around the Research Triangle area, including Raleigh, Cary, Garner, Wakefield, and Knightdale. Rex has developed these Wellness Centers to offer patients and residents a comprehensive array of medically and professionally supervised health services and fitness programs close to where they live. Each Wellness Center is staffed with registered dietitians, personal trainers, exercise physiologists, sports medicine professionals and others dedicated to guiding members through the steps of personalized fitness programs.
“We have always felt that the wellness component of healthcare is very important, and we’ve worked hard over the past several years to provide the people of the Triangle Area with convenient access to the kind of supervised wellness care that historically they could only get in a hospital setting,” says Tom Williams, Vice President of Suburban Services at Rex Healthcare. “NexCore was a true partner who understood the marketplace and the financing. We could not have gotten the Knightdale wellness project done without them.”
NexCore incorporated the Wellness Center into the existing 61,077 square foot medical office building on Rex’s Knightdale satellite campus, which NexCore master planned and developed in 2008-2009. The Wellness Center is housed on the third floor of the medical office building as well as in the one-story, 14,600 square foot aquatic addition on the west side of the building. The Wellness Center includes three pools (lap, therapy, and spa), steam/sauna/whirlpool room, large indoor track, group exercise and private personal training studios, state-of-the-art cardiovascular and weight training exercise equipment, and child activity area.
With the addition of the Wellness Center, the Rex Knightdale campus now offers family practice, internal medicine, pediatric, urgent care, wound care, surgery, sleep lab, on-site lab, imaging (basic radiology and digital mammography), gastroenterology, orthopedic, foot & ankle, pharmacy and wellness services.
“The addition of the Wellness Center to the Knightdale campus makes this a truly comprehensive outpatient care destination for the people of Eastern Wake County,” says Jarrod Daddis, Executive Managing Director at NexCore. “Adding the wellness component was also crucial in attracting important services to the campus such as orthopedics, foot & ankle, and pharmacy.”
According to Daddis, another benefit of the Wellness Center will be increased foot traffic and patient referrals on the Knightdale campus.
