NexCore Completes Development of St. Alexius Minot Medical Plaza in Minot, N.D.

For six years, St. Alexius Medical Center, which is headquartered in Bismarck, N.D., provided healthcare services to residents of Minot. But because of tremendous growth in the area, the health system commissioned NexCore Group for a larger facility.

The two-story, 67,575 square foot St. Alexius Minot Medical Plaza, which opened this summer, was developed using a lean planning process, which included significantly reducing the size of the original planned building, reducing the number of exam rooms from 70 to 48 and offering shared work areas.

“The lean planning process has really helped our health system eliminate waste, reduce costs and improve operational efficiency,” says Kurt Schley, CEO of CHI St. Alexius Health System. “The design also includes centralized registration and an open floor plan, which is fostering greater collaboration among providers and clinicians and an enhanced patient experience.”

Todd Varney, NexCore Managing Principal, notes, “We’re pleased that the new medical facility is helping St. Alexius recruit more physicians and provide more healthcare services to an increasing number of patients. The facility is meeting the health system’s needs and the needs of the community.”

St. Alexius Medical Center is the anchor tenant of the facility, which also includes independent practices such as orthopedics, OB/GYN, eye care/LASIK surgery, and a pharmacy.
