Leading Kidney Care Provider DaVita Extends Services on the Silver Cross Hospital Campus

DaVita Inc., a leading provider of kidney care in the United States, has signed a second lease in Pavilion A on the Silver Cross Hospital campus in southwest Chicago. NexCore Group developed the medical office building and currently leases and manages the 182,000-square-foot Pavilion A, the largest outpatient facility on the campus and the only one directly integrated into the $270 million replacement hospital.

“Pavilion A is the primary outpatient portal for the Silver Cross campus. It was designed as a one-stop-shop medical services building that consolidates outpatient services, physician offices, and medical-related retail services into one convenient location,” says Greg Venn, President and CEO of NexCore Group. “The DaVita home dialysis training center will add to the robust mix of services available to patients in this award-winning building.”

DaVita Inc. will occupy 2,631 square feet on Level 4 of Pavilion A for one of its home dialysis training centers, which will open in July 2014. DaVita will provide qualifying patients with portable dialysis equipment and training on how to successfully transition from in-center to at-home dialysis. DaVita’s home dialysis program currently serves more patients than any other home dialysis program in the United States.

Some argue that up to 25 percent of dialysis patients could be eligible for home care, and there is mounting evidence that home dialysis improves the quality of patients’ lives, delivers better outcomes and lowers the cost of healthcare.

DaVita also provides standard outpatient dialysis services at Pavilion A in the 7,000-square-foot infusion center on Level 1. The dialysis center is part of the hospital’s 68,000 square feet of consolidated outpatient services located on the first two levels of Pavilion A. (Physician offices are located on the four levels above.) The two leases qualify DaVita as a major tenant in the building, with a total of 9,631 square feet.
Pavilion A is currently 95 percent leased. While talks are underway with several prospective tenants, limited physician office space is available in the outpatient facility.
